How recovery scams happen

Scammers promise to get your money back
Scammers don’t stop after the first scam. They come back, posing as ‘recovery experts’ or ‘legal specialists’ who claim they can get your money back for a fee. Understandably, many victims pay up to try and recover their funds.
Then they demand more
Once they’ve gained your trust, scammers may invent ‘legal fees’, ‘tax payments,’ or ‘processing costs’—convincing you to send even more money. They may show progress updates or partial refunds to keep you hooked.
The scammer then disappears
By the time you realise it’s another scam, they’ve vanished again. We know just how distressed you’re feeling at this point. None of this is your fault—your bank should’ve protected you. We’re here to challenge them and reclaim what’s yours.

Frequently asked questions
-
Website spoofing scams
Website, or URL, spoofing scams occur when scammers create and set up a fraudulent site in an attempt to get information or money from victims or look to install malicious malware on their devices. Website spoofing scams will direct users to a website which looks like it belongs to their banking platform or energy provider and then ask them to provide their user ID and password. If the person logs in, then the scammer has the login credentials they entered and can then use this information to access multiple other platforms.

Why are phishing scams a problem?
Phishing scams are an issue because they are a cheap and effective scam for criminals to carry out. The tactics used are particularly basic, such as email and messages, which means that they require very little cost and effort to set up, but can cause widespread and devastating cyber attacks which lead to the loss of large amounts in some instances.
Victims of phishing scams may find that they not only lose out financially, but also experience identity theft and loss of personal data and information, which can be equally as devastating.

I think I’ve been the victim of a scam, what do I do?
If you think you’ve been a victim, you should end communication with the scammer straight away and contact the bank as quickly as possible to see if they can stop the payment. Usually, the quickest way is through the in-app chat support so the account can be secured quickly and then the issue looked into. Revolut are unlikely to refund money lost, as they don’t have the responsibility to do so. So, then you should report the incident to Action Fraud.
After this, to maximise your chances of getting your money back, you should contact us at WRS.
